Ostranauts is a gritty space life simulator set in a future where Earth has been devastated and the remaining population is scattered across the Solar System. You start out with a ship, a huge loan to repay, and very little else. Making money means taking whatever work you can find, scavenging abandoned ships, selling useful parts, and keeping your own vessel running. Fuel, food, air, power, and damaged equipment all need attention, so even a simple trip can quickly turn into a serious problem if you’re not prepared.
Your ship is something you build and maintain piece by piece. You can install engines, generators, air systems, storage, and other equipment, then connect everything together and deal with the consequences when something breaks down. Your character also has their own needs, skills, memories, and relationships, making the people you meet more than just background characters. Ostranauts doesn’t give you a traditional hero’s journey. Instead, it puts you in the shoes of an ordinary person trying to make a living in a harsh and unforgiving corner of space.
