70s-style Robot Anime Geppy-X is a retro 2D side-scrolling shooter built as a tribute to the giant robot anime of the 1970s. The story takes place in 197X, when the mysterious Cosmic Demon Empire attacks Earth with enormous beast-shaped machines called Space Beasts. A secret laboratory responds by sending out GEPPY-X, a transforming and combining robot built specifically to fight the invasion. The game was originally released in Japan and has now been fully restored and released worldwide.
The action lets you switch between three combat forms in real time, each suited to a different balance of speed, power, and attack options. The remastered version also adds useful features such as rewind, save states, rapid fire, CRT filters, and six extra modes including Boss Rush, alternate timelines, and experimental episode variations. The original hand-drawn animation has also been restored from the Betacam masters, bringing back around 8,000 frames at 24fps along with the original Japanese voices and soundtrack. 70s-style Robot Anime Geppy-X feels much like watching an old super robot series while actually taking control of the machine during its battles.
