The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition is an action RPG set alongside the events of The Lord of the Rings, following a separate group of heroes fighting Sauron’s forces in the northern parts of Middle-earth. You can play as a Human, Dwarf, or Elf, each with their own abilities and combat style, as you travel through places such as Bree, Rivendell, Mirkwood, and other familiar locations. The story focuses on the threat posed by Agandaûr, one of Sauron’s powerful servants, while the Fellowship’s journey takes place elsewhere.

Combat is built around fast hack and slash action, with both melee and ranged weapons, character skills, loot, and equipment upgrades. Each hero has their own skill tree, allowing you to develop their abilities around the way you prefer to play. The game can be played alone or with up to three players working together, with each character filling a different role in the fellowship. The Legacy Edition also adds modern improvements such as character switching during the campaign, autosave, an updated interface, improved targeting, and other quality of life changes.
