Warhounds is a turn based tactical strategy game about leading a team of mercenaries through an alternate future Africa. You recruit fighters with different specialties, including Assault, Specialist, Sniper, Machine Gunner, and Grenadier, then choose the right people and equipment for each mission. Combat is built around positioning, lines of fire, flanking, destructible cover, and high lethality, so rushing into a fight can quickly get one of your best operators killed.
Between missions, you take care of the less glamorous side of running a mercenary outfit. You can recruit new fighters, upgrade your base, manage equipment and medical supplies, handle contracts and budgets, and build relationships with different factions. Your choices can affect which missions, allies, and equipment become available later. There are also tools such as drones, combat scanners, smoke, and optical camouflage to help with difficult operations. Warhounds keeps missions relatively focused, with most taking around 25 to 40 minutes, while giving you enough control over the campaign to make every decision feel important.
