Grim Trials is a heavy-metal action roguelite that follows Avelin, a young woman who dies unexpectedly and is recruited as one of Death’s Reapers. Determined to become a full-fledged Reaper and reunite with the person she loves, Avelin must fight through an underworld filled with monsters, traps, sinful souls, and powerful bosses while confronting the demons connected to her own death. Between battles, she can explore the Academy of Death’s Reapers, interact with mentors and fellow Reapers, take on quests, and uncover the stories of the dead.
Combat takes place across endless hex-grid arenas where Avelin can dual-wield customizable scythes and crossbows, combining their different attacks to maximize damage. Defeated enemies provide materials that can be used to craft stronger weapons, armor, and consumables, while an expansive skill tree and randomized Blessings allow you to create different builds during each run. There are seven sacrilegious bosses to overcome, and even death is part of the progression, as the experience and materials you earn remain with Avelin after each failed attempt. Grim Trials combines fast-paced combat, crafting, character progression, and roguelite replayability with a dark fantasy story and heavy-metal aesthetic.
